Eni Award 2016

TRENDOXIDES2015

New TRENDS in Correlated OXIDES and Interfaces (12-18 November 2015, Brescia).

TRENDOXIDES2015 aims to bring together PhD students, researchers and scientists with diverse expertise in the field of correlated oxides, in which the electronic interactions lead to novel and complex properties of great relevance for the fundamental understanding and the technological applications.
The topics covered will include the new trends in material growth and engineering, artificial lattices and interfaces, fundamental theory, state-of-the-art spectroscopies, ultrafast dynamics and out-of-equilibrium properties, devices and energy applications.

TRENDOXIDES2015 is organized as a School and Workshop.

2015 Selection – deadline on August, 31

The closing date of the selection for the 31th PhD cycle  (2015-2018) has expired: applications due by August 31, 2015 at 13h00.

Interviews will take place from 11th to 18th of September 2015 (foreign applicants can be interviewed via audioconference, by request).  More details are available here.

Potential candidates are invited to contact the secretary to get  help with the web procedure for applications, which has now been activated (see this link ), in order to prepare their application well in advance.

16 PhD positions are available this year.

Postdoc positions available at Trinity College Dublin – Condensed Matter Physics

A number of openings for PhD and Postdoc positions in the group of Prof. Stefano Sanvito. These are connected to a recent project sponsored by Science Foundation of Ireland, and aiming at developing a multiscale theory for spin-transfer torque devices from first principles. The details of the positions are here below and a more extensive description is attached.

Postdoc:
It aims at developing an integrated package combining ab initio transport and micromagnetic simulations to describe spin-transfer torque driven magnetization reversal. Experience in micromagnetic simulations and coding micromagnetic software is essential.  See Advertisement-2015_Postdoc

PhD 1:

It aims at developing a high-throughput electronic structure approach to  the design of new magnetic tunnel junctions. The project will combine advanced electronic structure theory and data-mining/artificial  intelligence methods to design new, high-efficiency, magnetic  nanostructures. See Advertisement-2015_PhD

PhD 2
It aims at investigating electron transport in nanoscale magnetic  devices both at finite bias and in the linear response limit. The main  theoretical tool will be density functional theory combined with the non-equilibrium Green’s function method for transport and most of the  computation will be done with the Smeagol code (www.smeagol.tcd.ie).

May 19, 2015 – Michele Parrinello – Nucleation and Growth – Physics Colloquium

On Tuesday, May 19th at 15h00  the Physics Department will host the 6th Physics Colloquium of our PhD School for this academic year.

Atomistic modeling of crystal nucleation and growth

Prof. Michele Parrinello
