Bosco Chiesanuova (VR), Italy
September 7-15, 2025

Registration is now open for the SISN Teaching Days 2025 that will take place in Bosco Chiesanuova (VR) from September 7 to 15.

The SISN Teaching Days are the introductory school to neutron scattering techniques for the study of matter that the Italian Society of Neutron Sciences (SISN) organizes for young researchers, students, PhD students and post-docs, who want to understand the importance of neutrons in their respective research fields. The Teaching Days are therefore interdisciplinary and are designed for students with different backgrounds and interests that include physics, chemistry, biology, geology, cultural heritage and more.

The Teaching Days will be divided into two parts. The first will have a more theoretical nature and will consist of lectures on the fundamentals of neutron scattering, the principles of the various techniques and data analysis. Particular emphasis will be given to the complementarity between neutrons and X-rays, with attention to techniques based on synchrotron light and free electron lasers. The program will be completed by guided exercises in the form of problem solving, where what has been explained will be applied to real problems. Instead, the second part of the School will consist of virtual experiments that will be carried out in small groups under the guidance of a tutor. The students will study a scientific case in depth, evaluate the fundamental parameters for carrying out the experiment and analyze previously collected data sets. At the end of the School, each working group will present a seminar to illustrate the work done and the results obtained.
